I should have taken some before pictures, this is the after. This was probably dug, and obviously has some corrosion problems. I cleaned it for 2 reasons, it needed cleaning(I know, obvious), and to make sure it was authentic. A miniscule amount of dirt or foreign matter on a coin can hide the fact that it has been doctored. After cleaning thousands of coins over the years, I knew I could do so without lowering the value. Coins I have cleaned in the past are in NGC and PCGS holders today.
The hard part is I buy coins to sell. This is the first 1877 Indian I have owned, and within the next 2 weeks it will be sold.
