I got permission to do a yard hunt, home was built in 1900, not far into it I got a nice sounding repeating tone. I figured it was going to be a pull tab when out pops a big heavy coin. When I knocked off the dirt I gasped at a Seated Half, couple seconds later, realized I had got my second counterfeit Seated coin.
I have found two seated coins in my two years detecting both ending up being counterfeits!

Here is a link to the counterfeit

The fact that it is a period counterfeit makes it that much more interesting. I would be just as happy with it as I would the real one. Looks like it is very fragile and risky of further deterioration. Is it stable?

There you are buddy. What the hell are the chances of that? Amazing and very cool indeed

Well I think that is absolutely rad Treb. Then again I've never found a US counterfeit. Then again, my second time may piss me off though....
Anyway, as always, you're on the track for another great find so keep on trucking!

:BangHead: Hang in there Treble, hope next one is real for you !

Well that's cool, but I can understand the frustration haha! I'm sure the third time's the charm!

Seeing as how I haven't dug any Seateds, I am not sure how I would feel about that one Brad. Very interesting. Glad to see you posting again.

Still a cool find..

Hey theres brad, good to see ya posting again!, sucks its counterfeit but I think that makes it cooler!, great find!!

Another one????
Boy you have all the luck!!
I know you never found a real one, but they are way cooler. .
Theres a whole lot less of them out there then the genuine ones.
Great find..
You should be in the water soon, getting bit in the nipple's by the blue gills..lol

CONGRATS on another cool find, to find two of them is really Amazing

Brad - is that a lead or pewter counterfeit? Either way, it's strange that it would ring in low like a pull tab. Cool find, but hope you get the real deal next time.

Lets say I didn't scrape it with a toothpick, but it looks worse then it is.

The link talks about that counterfeit being made with "white metal" It rang up on my XP Deus at a consistent 72, I don't really pay too much attention to the numbers on that machine unless it sounds as good as that did and they are the same four ways like that did. Really I just used the pull tab as a example (58-67 range most pull tabs) I really was thinking Spanish Silver. Having already found a counterfeit Quarter last fall I put it together fast that I had a different kind of counterfeit this time. The counterfeit quarter was plated copper, this Half is "white metal"

Thanks guys for all your comments, I haven't been detecting as much, George is right, blue gill time is right around the corner, I can't wait. Looking forward to allot of spots.
