1879 P Morgan Silver Dollar (you judge the coin ?) it was a gift !!

Hi all i am on cloud 9 this senior lady i work with is leaving the business at 63 she,s worked for the company 35 years she is a beautiful person i,ve known her 10 years now we always have got along had lunch kid around just a wonderful lady i helped her out a few times when the chips were down and she did the same for me , anyway she know,s my hobbies and always ask me what did i find this time everyday as a gift she gave me a magnificent 1879 Morgan dollar she has had it for ever in a green clear air tight in her jewel box at home all she can remember is it was her granddads i almost fell over when i saw it to me this is like a million dollars , i don't know judging coins that well it has to be at least XF ? maybe better it has a die cud on the right rim on the obverse that is all i see as far as damage the tone is beautiful a light brown i don't think it,s ever been cleaned , the only problem was trying to open the holder it was so bad you could not see the coin it cracked almost like it was glass i got a new air tight holder for it one of the better ones 3.00 . In return i gave her a really nice silver lady's ring i dug last year it fits her prefect she loved it . I will miss her but i have this coin to remember her . I took a few scans because my daughter went to NJ to a concert for a few days and took my digital camera with out asking grrrrrr oh well . Tell me what you guys and gals think of the coin that's a keeper for me for ever enjoy Jim

It looks like an "S" mintmark on this coin. Also looks like a 1878 reverse design, which would make this a scarce coin. XF40

I checked that it is a raised dot not a S and how do you tell the difference between a 1878 and a 1879 reverse ? i saw a few marked like that on e-bay and i saw no difference .Thanks for the help Jim

Jim, the very top arrow feather is parallel to the rest of the feathers on the 78 design. The 79 and later design had the top feather flaring up. Also the eagle breast design is different.

Thanks now i see it so this 1879 has the arrow feathers of a 1878 and yes the breast plate is different i compared it to a 1878 how cool is that you just never know what you have i am glad i showed it or i never would of known thanks again Jim
