I have been hunting this old 1879, one room, school for about the past 2 months. It is just off a busy street, but not very visible from the street. I happened to notice it because a friend moved into the area. There is also a house, and a newer (1930's) building near the 1879 School. I just went to the house knocked on the door and asked permission to detect. The owner was very friendly and said sure, come back anytime, no problem. He also mentioned that he thought there was a log cabin school on the site in the 1850's, He also said some detectorists were there in the early 80's, but not since! That really peaked my interest!
It turned out to be the best site I have been on so far! My first Seated coins, including a Half Dime! Besides what's pictured here, a friend (I took him here once), found a bunch of Wheaties, a1943 War Nick, and a Merc.
The ground here is really hard on copper, and Nickels! Most are really toasted!
I'm still hitting the site, but the finds are getting fewer and further between. I keep hoping to find a 2 cent piece....
