Actually OscarII was the King of both Sweden and Norway. He was Swedish and the coin is considered Swedish. Norway split from Sweden at the turn of the last century under the rule of OscarII. It was amicable.

Obviously one can see Norway on the coin but the word 'Sveriges' is Swedish for Sweden

so its worth squat

You are right on this one Daydream. The coin is made of 80% silver and only 200 000 were minted so that is definitely a keeper. I dont know what the value would be though. Big congrats!

nice job! I bet you were doing the happy dance when you found those! ;D

Correct.

I'll look it up when I get home. I've got the 1801-1900 Manhattan-phonebook-sized Coin Atlas or whatever it is.

I knew the minimum amount to figure out the dual-kingship.
Sverige = Sweden
Norge = Norway
och = close enough to the German "auch" (also).

What is obvious is that the coin is in *excellent* shape for an 1880. I'll be surprised if it isn't worth at least $50.00.

thanks for the replys
