Hello Tnet Friends :hello:

Got back to the 1880 school site for a short 2 1/2 hour hunt this morning. I decided to turn the discrimination on my ACE 350 up a notch as we've had some pretty good rains here of late and was rewarded with some decent finds today! :icon_thumright:

You can see in the photos showing the line of pine trees on a slight incline, this is the area I mainly hunted today. I went slow and took my time to separate the sounds and readings I was getting. First I found the 1917 Silver Dime followed by the Pennies which date from 1940 - 1950. ;D

Dug this interesting gun trigger at about 3", not too sure if it's for a real gun or was made for a "really good quality" play toy! It's nickel plated, heavy, and has far too much detail on it to be a toy, I think! :dontknow:

Thanks for looking and happy hunting!
Dave

Re: 1880 School Hunt - 1917 Silver Dime and a Gun Trigger!

Very nice digs there! Possibly starter gun trigger, dont think its a real hammer. WTG!

Re: 1880 School Hunt - 1917 Silver Dime and a Gun Trigger!

Sorry, the trigger is off an old cap pistol. The flat surface on the striking face gives it away.

Thank very much Tom! :icon_thumright:
So far I've dug 4 silver coins, 2 rings, 2 - LC Pennies (1882 & 1917), a P&A Nevada Spoon, 12 + 1938 - 1959 Pennies, a lead pig toy and a lot of other great stuff! I've got a 4 1/2" Sniper Coil on it's way from Kellyco andhope to use it here next week. I truly feel that I've barely scratched the surface here!

I think your probably right there DJM. :icon_scratch: I used to collect flintlock and black powder muskets years ago, but I've very little experience with the modern weapons of today!

Thanks for you post,
Dave

Those old Canadian dimes are really cool looking. What do you call those type dimes? I wonder if the Canadian detectorists have nick names like our "mercs", "wheaties", and "rosies"?

Re: 1880 School Hunt - 1917 Silver Dime and a Gun Trigger!

Congrats on the silver! Looks more like a gun hammer than a trigger. HH, Mike

Thanks Ricky, I'm kinda relieved it's not from a real gun! :laughing7:

No, no bones or cops this time . . . thanks for bringing that up Doug! :laughing9:
Though I did find the skeleton of a squirrel, made the "executive" decision
not to call the cops for an ID on that one! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you man,
Dave

Thanks for posting CHF . . . that's a good question! :icon_thumright:
I don't know about my fellow Canadian detectorists out there, but I just call them Edwards' or Georges' or Lizzies'! :laughing7: I base this on which British Monarchs' bust is on the coin the year it was minted. I know, it doesn't sound near as cool as finding a Barber, a Merc or a Seated Liberty! :D
Thanks,
Dave
