This is what the 1883 Brown County, Texas Courthouse looked like after it was constructed, back when the streets around the Square were still made of dirt. When it rained, the dirt turned to a gooey mud and old-timers said that when they stepped into the street after it rained, they were liable to sink knee-deep in the muck.
