Hey everyone,

Got out for a few trips over the last few weeks. Been really hot here close to 90. So if your not out in the morning or evening forget about it.

I had a couple of productive hunts. I checked over the whole colonial site I just last hunted. I was only able to sqeeze one more target out of the place.

It was the small little diamond rectangular pin or something in the pic. It ended up being a one time thing. Must have been a small colonial site there for a short time.

No heavy relics were found. Not even any iron present. Just coins and buttons. I can't complain though. It's nice getting the goods without having to remove all the trash first.

But the other day I was sitting in my house. My boys are outside playing. My son comes in and says daddy I found some marbles. I'm thinking it's probably newer one's he has around the house.

But when I took a closer look and sen they were older and dirty I said hey were did you get them. Of course he lied to me and said daddy I got them in the woods.

I said O.K to myself and didn't think much of it. Then about ten minutes later he comes back with more. You know me being a treasure hunter had to go out and see where they were getting them from.

It turns out my neighbors porch has a dropp off that goes into the yard. Well he had red bricks bordering the wall. All the marbles were trapped inbetween the wall and the bricks.

The even had old silver paint on them from when the porch was painted yrs ago. Most look to be from the 60's. But a few look like they are from the 40's. And they actually found a clay one to.

There were 21 total. I'm sure there are more over there. When he rips it all out. He will let the boys check for more. There always out hunting these boys.

I cleaned them all up. And will add them with the other few hundred I've dug detecting.

Now a break down of the finds.

One rare date 1893 S barber Quarter.
One 1937 Merc

Two 1922 P.G.H Railways Tokens
One Old Red Goose Shoes Token

Six Wheat Cents
Two Buffs 1932 And A 192?

Hope you all like the pics and story.

HH Jer

Nice tokens and coins!

It's cool how your kids hunt for stuff too.

Congrats!

Well found :)

Good stuff! That quarter served its country well! I love finding marbles in a hole with coins or whatever else I find; it indicates that careless little children played there and lost a lot of other things, too ;D. You're right about the heat; by late morning it's too hot to enjoy searching unless you have shade, and when you have shade you often have roots. People in this area are addicted to maples, with their cursed roots so close to the surface!

Nice finds, Jeremy. For you and your boys.

Enjoyed the story as well.

Thanks for posting.

Great finds! Nice mix of items there. Like fishing in the ocean, you never know what you'll catch next.

fantastic finds jer congrats and good luck to you and your boys

Neat story and finds Jer!

Cool stuff. I love finding marbles. Especially the older ones.

Too bad that Barber Quarter is so worn. I'd take it though! ;) ;D

That colonial site sounds like a nice place to detect - coins, buttons and no iron.

Great finds Jer and congrats to the boys on their marble cache! Those clay marbles should be well over 100 years old. HH, Mike

The quarter is a nice one! I do recollect you finding a couple Barber quarters at a defunct lookout site. If you don't mind my asking, what was the history of that site (the lookout)? How many coins did you find there?

Thanks alot everyone,

UI love to find old marbles myself also. The boy's are treasure hunters just like there Dad is. It's gonna be nice one day when there all grown.

The barber quarter was pretty beat. I was lucky to get it. There was pulltabs on the surface. And alot of hot rock present. But the Dfx was still hitting that high note and pinpointed small.

I dug out a nice size hole with no luck. Then I look down in the hole and see a large grey disc just laying at the bottom. Picked it up and said man I know this coin is old.

Sometimes when there really worn down it's hard to tell what they are. I thought a seated at first but no a old barber. I find more barber quarters than washingtons.

Kirk, I'm not sure what went at the old overlook. I do know there was some kind of small store or home right at the crest of the hill. The foundation is still there.

I found maybe 20 25 silver coins. Dating from the late 1800's up to the 60's. A few old nickles. A few old indians. Bunch of nice relics and marbles and wheats.

Lots of nooks still out there like that. This overlook was also right above a really old neighborhood. So I can imagine lots of kids and folks were up there back in the day.

Lot of silver quarters were found at the site. Must have been some kind of store that took quarters.

Awesome finds, i like that 1893 barber quarter.

Thanks alot guys.

I find alot of barbers. It's the seateds and older silver that is alot tougher to find. I maybe get one seated to 10 or 20 barbers.

Sounds like a really great place to hunt. Love all the cool finds, expecially the marbles and the sweet Barber, cool!

I found a Red goose shoe token like that here in Michigan last summer, with a bullet hole shot right through the center of it.

Great post and photos Jer, congrats and thanks for sharing buddy!

Smiles!

Thanks alot guys,

Nash,

Now I'm cracking up. I make it sound so simple. But it isn't that easy. I've just been lucky. My towns history was really rolling by that time. So barbers can be found consistently.

You can get any kind of coins if your in the right era. It's getting tougher to find old locations. I know you'll get that barber Nashoba. Keep on hunting and tracing back spots.

Booby,

The red goose was sort of a nice surprize. You know how many times I've found the same token over and over. It's been alot. This was my first red goose.

It was actually in good condition. I found it under the right tree's and soil. It didn't get eaten alive. There fairly large. But shooting one out of mid air would take some skill.

I may be able to do it. It would be fun to try. Maybe with a Ike or something lol. Too many beers tonight from my neighbors tap.
