1893 World's Fair Bank

I'm new to this forum stuff, but I made a find today that I want to share with the treasure hunting community. It is a small bank (L=6" x W=2.5" x H=6") and the front reads "WORLD'S FAIR ADM. BLDG 1893". The dome is cracked, but I still think it’s cool. I am sorry for the poor quality pictures. The words and details on this item are more pronounced in person.

This find was made while detecting overgrown old building foundations in my hometown. It is very hard trying to pinpoint anything in these areas. Until today, my tendency has been to avoid high trash areas like these. After seeing what other folks were finding, and gathering a few tips on hunting these areas, I was ready to try again. Thanks to everyone here for providing inspiration and sharing your tips. I made a neat find today because of you!

I love that thing! Any details on where you found it in relation to the foundations? Basement within , yard outside? How deep? What detector do you use and how HUEG OMGLOL!1 was that signal when you hit it?

I found the bank just below the surface. Actually, part of the bank was exposed and it looked like a brick, until I swept over it. The bank was hung up in the roots of an old tree, preventing it from burying itself further. It was outside and away from the nearest foundation by 15 feet. The signal was one of those overload types, creating a nice loud spike in my headphones.

This area is weird. I don’t think these were home sites from what I know of the local history. These “so called” cellar areas are close to the creek, and there appears to be old mill races running into them. The foundations also lie within the flood plane and wouldn’t make a great place for homes. Our town was known for its mills, and two of the larger ones have been restored and are still occupied today. One is town hall, and the other is being used as an art museum.

I have been using a Bounty Hunter Land Star for 10 years now. I was running it in discrimination mode, with the discrimination turned all the way down. That way I could still use my target ID and not lose any signals. I also turned the sensitivity way down. This allowed me to separate targets in this high trash area. It is the one tip that I learned from these forums that made all of the deference. I always thought making your detector less sensitive was counter productive, but this makes all the sense in the world now.
