18k junk ring?

Any idea what this ring is made of? the inscription looks like 18k, but I doubt it since it's corroded. I cleaned off some of the corrosion for id. I think it might be brass.

take some 000 steel wool and clean it up.only pure gold does not corrode.All alloys mixed with gold do.nickle,copper most common.Next move is to buy a dang metals ID kit.they cheap and any treasure hunter worth his salt should have one.

looks like you got a fake. Apparently it was pretty common to stamp 14 or 18k into brass 100 years ago. I got a couple of similar rings myself.

Everyone needs to understand that all jewelers that make jewelry have stamps for all of the different carats.... 14K, 18K ... etc... just because its marked doesn't mean anything... The piece can be marked anyway they want to mark it. Most all jewelers are honest and would never mismark a piece of jewelry... but the bad guys do... be careful....

Those are common with city street sellers, we call them bootleg rings. I have several, one that is marked 18k Zales.
