Can anyone inform me on what this symbol means they are seen in certain locations. Circle with 4 lines Screenshot_2016-10-02-20-03-16.webp
I also found an old tavern drove to the location, no trace of it now obviously, shame really. But woods are somewhat nearby:).

This is just a guess but it could indicate crossroads?

A larger section shown might help to figure out what they are used for.Although I could understand why you wouldn't want to show if it's an area you are researching for a new site to detect.

Galapagos Tortoise?

Either that, or enormous mutant spiders.

:) sorry guys

It's hard to help without information. I know that of the bazillions of members here online the chances of one reading your cryptic map who happens to live in the same area and poach your spot is slim to none, and even if someone did hall e to see it who was from your area your a sumo g that they are a-holes and would steal it... I mean the chances are so remote.

Best of luck

It resembles directional symbol on maps N/E/S/W although a very rough resemblance. But like Mackaydon said it should be in the map(key) legends and symbols. And it does resemble the windmill symbol as Jewelryguy pointed out, although a rough resemblance again.Without the symbol key or knowing the cartographers name it will be hard to know exactly what he meant the symbol to be.

The David Rumsey map collection is online.
You should be able to determine to obtain a key from that map.
If not, you can contact the curator of that collection starting here:\

Are there any knolls around? Reminds me of a symbol for small hills.
