Lets start by saying that this by far my oldest dog tag that I found.
Previously I believe it was a 1938.
I talked with Watercolor last night and made plans to show him an old cellar hole / farm stead that dates back to
1850's or earlier.
It is in a small section of woods that is bounded by expressways and roads.
This wooded area is only maybe 3 blocks long by 2 blocks wide.
The nice thing about it is it is only a few blocks from my house.
All that remains of it is a couple of large indentations, the large boulders where the barn rested on and
the boulders where another building rested on.
I have yet to find any coins but lots of relics.
Today was the first time that something with a date was found.
I have only been out there maybe 6 to 8 times .

Here are some pictures of the dog tag.

It would be nice to see some other old tags so lets start posting them for all to see.

Hey Watercolor any time you want to go out there feel free to go. I know there is some type of old coin out there..someplace

Thanks all for looking and I hope to see some more tags

Hey SHINNY PUPPY lets see that 1921....

Cool Find!!! I have a few dog tags back in the states, and if I was home, I'd post my oldest which is a tag from Dalton Township in Muskegon County, Michigan. The tag is brass in the shape of a doghouse with a stamping of a dog laying in it with his head and forelegs sticking out. The tag is a 1900 tag but was overstamped into a 1902. The next oldest one I have is 1941.

I don't have a photo of it, but my partner found a 1936 dog tag last weekend.

I love dog tags. Nice find!

Here's a 1933 dog tag I found last summer at an old camp meeting ground. It's my oldest. I just also recently found a broken 1955 tag near an old cellar hole, but it's worn and barely legible.

Cheers,
B

I've got one my hubby found. It says "Globe"; then the number "196" underneath; then says "dog Tax 1929" underneath that. Sorry, no pic. I believe he found it in Arizona.

There was a 1945 tag buried next to it but I can't seem to find it now. I guess it wanted to stay lost ;D

I guess that I'm still a newby when it comes to dog tags. I have found several, but the oldest one is only from 1981. What I'm picturing here is something that I think is even harder to find than dog tags. And, it's only dated 1974. You just don't find these tags very often. I'm sorry about the condition of the tag, but it has been hit with a lawn mower, and this is the best that I can get it straightened out. HH

I saw another posted JUST like mine except it was from 1879. Looked the same except for the tag # and date. Mine was in better shape, and they were found maybe 20 miles apart!

Hey All,
Just curios, but is there a way to find out who's dog or cat it was by the tag # ? I think it would be cool, maybe to locate someone who may have had that dog or cat as a child and is now 70+.....
Just a thought
