Dug lots of canadian large cents but this one stood out because the coins issued in 1911 did not have the words "DEI GRATIA" (by the grace of God) causing the public to complain, calling these coins "Godless". The penny's were later modified in 1912 with the legend containing "DEI GRA:".

I have one of those too...Canadian coins are a fun hobby, they used to trade one-to-one along the border states. I still get them in my change from time to time.
 

In my coin book, this coin is separated from all the other Canadian pennies that look like it. It is worth about $2.25.
