~ Posted for a fellow Allegheny County Resident ~
I think he wants to know what this license was used for, ie carriage, chaffeur, etc, and where it would have been on the vehicle.
"I own an item that is imprinted (stamped) as a “Chartiers Township Vehicle License”. It is made from heavy bronze and has a slight curve to its shape. It is slotted at one end and has a small hole in the other end. The dimensions are 3” in width and 1 1/2“ in height.
The upper part of this plate has “CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP VEHICLE LICENSE” stamped into the metal, the number “7” about the center and “1H” in the lower left and “1911” in the lower right It appears that it was held on a motor vehicle or horse drawn wagon by a thin leather strap. On the back side (and barely noticable) and stamped in very small letters (all caps too) are the name of “CUNNINGHAM" and "PGH. PA”.
