Haven't been out alot this year but I had a chance to go back to a house that was built in 1754. It had served as a stagecoach stop into the late 1800's. This house sat vacant from the early 1950's until someone saved it from the wrecking ball in the late 80's. In 1996 I pulled scores of coins dating between 1785 and the 1930's. Mostly coppers. Anyhow, I just happened to be by the old place and had a chance to seach a small area that had been grown in when I was last there. Didn't find any coins but did manage these 2 finds. The badge was face down, which is why I think the painted numbers look so good. The soldier was laying on its side, The side that is faded was face up and the darker side was obviously down. Looking at the face-on shot you can see that the left side is a bit more worn and faded than the right. Almost everthing I pulled out of the ground here years ago was in great shape. Usually things in this area are pretty beat up when they are recovered.

the chauffer badge is very cool!

Love the chauffeur badge! My father has been collecting chauffeur/taxi/hack badges for several years. Our den wall is COVERED in them! He and my brother also have a website cataloging chauffeur badges. Check out www.taxibadges.com. The site is for information/historical purposes only. Most of the badges you see on the site were photographed by my brother. A few are badges owned by someone else, but they let us use the pictures.

Sorry for the website plug... Figured it would be good for reference. Also, I just checked and there is a non-dug 1923 NY badge for comparison.

No need to be sorry for that plug. Great website. LOTS of reference. Thanx for the link.

Great looking finds Historyhound! :icon_thumright:
Love the condition of the chauffeur badge :notworthy:

Nice badge, I've never found a Chauffeur's badge.

Excellent finds. I can't believe the great condition of the figurine.

Never found a chauffeur's badge before. It's high on my list though. I can only hope to find one in as good a shape as yours. Very nice
