Got out this morning with Anthony (Plazz58) and headed north to a sports field I found on Google Earth. We got busy and I immediately started finding deep dimes and quarters. About two-and-a-half hours into the hunt I got a high tone and opened the hole to find a coin I never knew existed!

My glasses were so messed up from perspiration and dust I couldn’t really make out what it was, so I called Anthony over. Turns out it is a “Sesquicentennial” American Independence Silver Half Dollar! I looked it up and found out it was made at the Philadelphia Mint. It has Washington and Coolidge on the front, and the Liberty Bell on the back. The article says because of the Great Depression in the 1930s, these commemoratives were spent to survive.

We had fun, and the three-hours just flew by. This is the second big silver I have found with the Vanquish 540, and I am really loving it. I apologize for CURSING in the video, but I really got excited. My bad.:icon_thumleft:

Great day in the field Terry, Congrats on that Silver Beauty!!!

Man that is a great find, Terry! Damn, I'm almost as excited as you are! Beautiful coin! Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks Terry another day I will never forget

Awesome find Terry! Could not bring up your video but I bet it was good... Early 20th century commemorative halves are not something that would have normally been spent!! :occasion14:

How about a pic so everyone can see it?

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Congrats on that nice Commemorative Half Terry. Your swearing in the video did not bother me at all, ( I would have done the same with a coin like that ) !

Loving the Minelab! Loves coins! Congrats

Never seen that coin before. Nice find!

Sweet finds Terry. What stood out to me was the opening shot “swinger”

The “Parabola swing” might be missing some treasure..

An awesome find. I was watching you travel and swung your great detector, and I have a little advise for you.Slow down and also keep the coil in a flat to the ground position. So good luck to you.

WOW! Congrats Terry on a rare dig! Those commemorative halves are really cool!

Anthony has only been swinging for about a month now. He'll flatten out that swing eventually. To be honest though, at that point we had been out there about two hours, and we were getting to the "Cherry Picking" point, and I think he was just getting up to where he wanted to grid as fast as he could. That is the "walking back to the parking lot swing" we use at Jones Beach!:laughing7:

Great coin Terry. First coin I have seen with two faces. Thanks for the photo.

That’s what I’m talkin about. Great hunt Terry.

Great hunt Terry and awesome silver, I wasn't aware of them either. Congrts

Terry, I just looked up your coin and it shows only 141,120 were minted! Very Cool Find Sir!

I had never heard of this coin. Thanks for the education and congrats to you!
