Today I went for a quick late afternoon hunt at a favorite site. On my second signal I found a silver 1945 war nickel. It's a little green on back, but I can make out a "P" mint mark above the dome of Monticello.

I have to say that getting a good find right at the beginning of a hunt really takes the pressure off. I didn't even mind too much when it started raining and I had to leave early - at least I had some silver.

This is only my first silver coin for 2017 - definitely a slow start, but better late than never. I'm pretty happy to finally break the drought - hopefully there's more in the near future.

Thanks for looking - HH!

Nice work, better late than never! Nice job on digging a clean plug with the towel too! Makes a huge difference

Thanks! Yeah, unless I'm digging in the woods or a plowed field, I use a towel (actually, a cheap cloth placemat) to hold the dirt that I take out of the hole. It's a lot easier and neater when I put the dirt back, and it leaves no trace after I replace the plug. It also makes it easier to find the target.

On the board with a nice silver nickel. Love me some War Nickels yep.

Way to go! On the board with war nickel is cool. I still haven't found a war nickel. Seems my nickels have been just too early, or just too late...:dontknow:

Nicely done, , those War Nickels are 35% silver.
I always enjoy digging them.
Congrats
