Until someone pipes in - I searched Google and found a few listings with pennies that were "plated" and placed in a bezel for wearing - some represented the year of their birth, marriage, etc.

Dryer penny maybe?:dontknow:

Anybody ever seen a 46 penny like this? Kind of like a steal penny.

Check to see if it sticks to a Magnet. If not, then it is a Copper Cent that has been coated with Mercury or possibly plated. Make sure to wash your' hands after handling the coin unless you use gloves.

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't stick to a magnet. Just struck me as odd.

Many pennies were coated in mercury in the past in science classes throughout the US. This may be what you have.

Looks to be zinc plated imo
