Our club went to an old homestead site to try to find a hoard of gold & silver coins that was buried several decades ago by a one-legged bee keeper ~ nobody in the family ever claimed to recover them. We didn't find them (YET!) ~ there's 20+ acres of land to cover! The best thing found was a 1920 Walking liberty Half dollar. All I found was an old REESE padlock ~ a clad quarter, clad dime, nickel, a couple memorial cents, and a rolled-out wheat cent with the "OUR FATHER" prayer.
After that we headed down town to the spots where we keep pulling out old coins. Here's my totals for today:
1952 Silver Roosevelt dime
three wheat cents ~ 1925-S, 1942-S, and 1944-S
1956 Canadian cent
15 clad quarters (one smashed out as big as a half dollar!)
13 clad dime (I found more 25c's than dimes today!)
6 nickels
54 memorial cents
REESE padlock
I took a picture of the 1952 Silver dime with the camera on my cell phone while it was still stuck in the plug of dirt.
