alright went through my first box of nickels today, ( would have put this in CHR but I felt it deserved the straight coins section) it is dark brown/black colored all over, no spotting on pealing on high points, no sign that it was in contact with water. I have found a lot of nickels metal detecting that were really dark but they showed through red on the high points, and often the dark portion would peel off if rubbed in water, I think this is an improperly annealed coin but searches for "black beauty" return only 1959 pieces. I did however find a thread on another forum by someone who was asking the same question about an identical coin to mine. what do yall think are there any instances of non '59 black beauties?
