1964 Mint Set

Hey guys, I'm new here (been lurking for awhile) but I just wanted to introduce myself! Anyhow, I just bought this 1964 Mint set off Craigslist for $40. I know thats roughly the value, so just wanted to know what you guys think!

Did you get the whole set or just the coins pictured? The whole mint set should include the Philadelphia and Denver mint coins. They originally should have been in sealed cellophane packaging.

Well actually, I haven't purchased it yet and I have to assume thats all of it. So yeah =\

I don't know what the actual silver value of it is but if you like it go ahead. I don't think it's worth much as an investment set but if you want it just to say you "have" it that's your call. You could probably get better coins cheaper from a dealer or a coin shop.

I would run from this "opportunity". What the seller has done is repackage some '64 coins in an acrylic case. The mint didn't issue the mint set or proof set in the pictured case. They were sold in plain envelopes in cello packaging. The outer envelope would be labeled U.C. for uncirculated coins or P.C. for proof coins.

It's unlikely you'll ever get something for a price on eBay, that will leave you room for profit. Especially if you don't know a lot about what you are purchasing, which incidentally, you must purchase sight unseen. eBay is a horrible place to buy coins, but a GREAT place to sell them because everyone always overpays farto much above their real value. Remember, if you are expecting to resale those coins on eBay, eBay will take 10% of your profit and Pay Pal another 3%, and postage. So you have to get 20% above value just to make a couple of percent profit.

Yeah, the coins are mint state or business strike coins, in a case made for proof coins. The Half, dime and quarter are 90% silver and $40 is too much.

yyznick: if you are still interested in the 25 years of U.S. Uncirculated Coin Mint Sets, I have the entire collection in a blue "25 years of U.S. Uncirculated Coin Mint Sets" notebook. Each year has a summary page of history and is sealed in plastic. This set has the Philadelphia and Denver Mint sets. Please let me know if you are interested.
