I just started Coin roll hunting recently and and was looking for some key dates.
i have a few 1970 S cents and am struggling with the "Small date" identification.
Thought maybe I found one because it is different from the other two, but the more I look at them the more I think none of them are small dates.
What do you think?

Doesn't look like any of them are small dates to me. Keep trying, you're bound to find one! :icon_thumright:

Dittos, no small date
When looking for one keep an eye out for a weak "ERTY" in Liberty and a level or high seven.
Also pay close attention to a sharp curve inward on the tail of the 9
Hope this helps

Thanks guys.
The thinner S mint mark on the bottom cent caught my eye because it was different then the chunky s on the top two.
Ill try to think positive about it and tell myself that at least I will have a few large date pennies to compare my small date to when I get one.

There you go, I have about 25 or so small dates and I have some on eBay right now. I don't want to sound like I'm advertising but if you're interested in one let me know

I've been searching for 15 years and have yet to find one! Being on the east coast doesn't help.

1970-S 1c Large & Small Date Comparisons

Instead of trying to use a straight-edge to determine if the "7" in the Date is level with the "19" and "0", the easiest diagnostic is to note the strength of "LIBERTY" in the two examples and where the inside curl of the "9" in the Date points in the two examples.
