1975 Penny

I recently came across a 1975 penny that is gold colored and has the date 12-31-74 stamped above the 1975 date. Has anyone ever heard or seen this before? I can't find out anything about it on the internet. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Yes i have my exboss had a penny like that but i cant remember the year so i guess there is at least two pennies with a date on it.Ibet theres more.

A google search found two other inquiries just like yours... as far back as a few years ago, on other boards... No replies, just the question.

I found a 1977 that was like that while roll hunting, I was told that there was a very common chemistry experiment done during high-school chemistry classes that caused the transformation. Some sort of demonstration of chemical changes.

yea this is chemistry experiament where you pull the outer shell of the penny off to get to the Zinc core at which point is dropped into some boiling liquid I dont remeber the exact contents. but it produces a Golden Penny that looks exactly like the copper outer shell we see everyday.
