I've been out in the fields four times so far and it's been pretty dry, and then I found this. I believe it is a 3/4 slanted grooved axe- Archaic? 7,000-2,000 years old?- 5 3/4" long and 2 1/4" high. The bit end has a nice polish and is still sharp. The body seems to have been intentionally curved- convex on the top and concave on the bottom. The "rough" side shows some of the original textures of the stone in the areas that were not worked. There are a couple of chips on the bit near the top on the rough side of the axe- I guess I'll be able to live with that! Any input or ideas welcomed. HH

That's a nice axe - They are like chicken teeth around my area.

Congrats on a nice find. I dont believe they used them around my area here in Georgia.

That one is very pretty. What a great find. It survived the plow too. That will always be one of your favorite finds.

Yes- it will be one of my favorites- but all of them are! I can't believe the variety of artifacts and the time spans. It puts mortally into perspective .
