After months of researching an area and the gaining of permission, I have finally found my first CW artifacts at an undisclosed location today. The whole fork says "1847 rogers Bros" on the back and there are initials on the front of the handle that read "C I A" I think the fork was silverplated. I also found a bent up fork missing the teeth, half of some kind of lid and two bullets. All of these cleaned up nicely with water and a toothbrush.

Congratulations on your first CW finds. The CIA initials might be fun to track down. The initials makes it easier with three. Fun stuff that Civil War. Its disappearing quick. Nice finds.

Now you're talking! Congrats on your first CW relics Joe. You must have that Tesoro figured out now. ;D
That fork is a great find with those initials in it.

gotta love that fork-great find indeed!

I think the Civil War era forks had three tines and the more modern forks had four. The bullets are Civil War period though.

Everything pictured was found in the same area. I think soliders could have brought their own silver ware from home.

Careful it can become addictive! ;D
I know, I may head back to that area tomorrow. I got the fever now.

I'm glad you were able to dig some civil war stuff and hope you dig a lot more.

Nice bullets Joe!!! However, the 1847 Rogers trademark is still being used today and the fork is likely circa 1940s. I still see many sets of the 1847 Rogers silverware sold at estate sales. If you do a search on the pattern on the fork, you may be able to determine when it was made. You are probably in an overlay situation where more modern relics are on top of CW arifacts. Last week, I found the spoon in the pic with a DuPont trademark in the middle of a Confederate camp. The DuPont co. is old but not near CW period HH.
