Hi everybody!
I received my birthday present, a new Minelab E-Trac (Thanks Windy City Detectors!), last Saturday. Before I could use it, I had to wait a few days for the weather to warm up and the ground to thaw. In the mean time, I read, studied, and re-read Andy Sabisch's great book The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook. This morning I headed out to give the E-Trac a try. I decided to go to a park that I have hunted fairly extensively in the past. I spent the first hour getting used to all the sounds and information I was being given. It was almost a sensory overload compared to the Garrett Ace 250 I've been using the past year and a half! The first coin I dug was a 1973 dime about two inches deep. It was soon followed by three more dimes and a penny. About this time, it began to rain and sleet, so I decided to take a break for lunch. It cleared off later in the afternoon, so I headed back to the park. This time I pulled a 1978 quarter from four inches, and four pennies - from two to four inches deep - before I had to head off for an appointment. Following the appointment, I still had an hour of daylight, so after getting permission from my wife
I headed back to the park. This time I managed two quarters and four more pennies. Time was running short when I got a solid hit reading 14 - 47 and showing seven inches deep. I dug down and in the bottom of the hole, I saw the glint of silver!
I pulled out a nice looking 1942D Mercury dime, my first silver of the year. What a great way to start out with my new detector.
I think I am going to love using this machine. It is a big step up from the Ace 250. Don't get me wrong, I love the Ace and think it is an awesome introductory detector, but the E-Trac is going to open up a whole new world. I can't wait to get back out and see what else I can find.
Thanks for reading, and HH everybody,
Dr. Ace
