I took a short trip out today and found .36 cents in Clad and Zink, then I found what I thought was gold. When I cleaned it up I was able to see that it probably isn't. I can find any markings and honestly it doesn't look very old either. But there is no corrosion. I think it has been down less than a year. Take a look and let me know your thoughts. I wouldn't be too hasty on your judgement.

Still, nice finds!

Thank you.

Test that thing.
There might be a very tiny mark on a clasp part if you still have it, also look all over the pendant.
In moist soil gold can tarnish, silver too, not everything precocious metal comes up clean every time.
I see no flaking, a sure sign of junk, but in pics it is hard to see it all.
If it is junk and wasn't buried long it might be good or bad.
If it was down there at least a little bit deep that means it was under long enough time for a junk item to show its real nature.

Test both the pendant and the chain for sure.
You might be pretty happy if you do.

Might even be older and a lower kt gold, like 9kt.

Yea, I am a little confused because I see no marks at all. Not on pendant or clasp. And there is no flaking which I expected. But it was approx. 2 inches at her deepest. But it had small roots grown around it. I am guessing maybe a year. I have a friend that worked as a jewler and I will have him look at it when I see him next week. I would love for it to turn out to be real but I just don't think it is heading in that direction.

It doesn't look like a matched set does it? Even if one isn't real, the other might be...

Good luck! I hope it works out.

Markings or not it's still a nice looking chain.

You are right, I think the chain was darker. Not as flashy. Great point!

Yes it is and I will be gifting it to the Wife! Or I think I should say she will take it from me! LOL

Gold or not, it's still a nice find! And get used to those heart-breaking, SO close..1965 quarters...I dug a couple full rolls of them before striking a silver one..but I finally weaned myself off the school/park scene and got onto some older, private property (with permission of course!)..and started to pull them like pull tabs..lol. Nice finds..keep digging! Ddf..

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

Real or junk, it's a great find. I bet your heart sped up and you cracked a big smile when you first recognized what was in the hole. That's what keeps us going. The next plug might be "THE" plug that holds a keeper. GL & HH

Still exciting even if fake. Because you are on the right trail to more great finds! Ive never found any gold but i have found some cool silver. Plus you weren't just scrolling the TV channels. Instead you were enjoying the outdoors!

What I do before going to a jeweler who should check it for free if you find the right one run your detector over it if its not gold it usually will ring higher on your VDI if its gold it will ring lower like foil range cause of the ferrisness of it I'm not sure how your detector reads if it was an at pro It would be easy to tell you this should give you a much better Idea Thanks for sharing it!!!!!!

Does a magnet stick to it? It looks like gold to me, I would be very happy to dig that one up. Nice find!

Thanks for the comments and the great tips and ideas. I will keep you posted on any updates.

Thank you!
