Hi, I had to do a day trip to Pennsylvania today... so with some time to kill I went down by the creek bed where's there's awlays fishing going on. Didn't come up with anything there so I walked the edge of the corn field (following fresh boot tracks from someone else and deer tracks) and had a "iffy" hit, almost down to a pull tab reading on my Garrett. Was only 2 inches deep so dug to see what is was... couldn't tell at first. Thought it might be a Liberty Nickel, rubbed it an seen the wheat grains of an Indian Head cent! I thought Cool!
Turned it over to recover the date but that was useless (see pic) so turned it back over again and realized that it didn't have the shield! Wow! 1859!!! My first one ever.
I'll soak it for some time in olive oil and see how it goes. Here's the before pics.
