Nice detail, but the corrosion is going to limit the value. 1864 large motto is a pretty common coin to begin with as well. Enjoy it for the historical value!

It's hard to tell from your blurry photos what grade it might rate. As I.cutler mentioned, the corrosion will cut the value in whatever grade it achieves. If it indeed is an 1864 large motto, I agree, it's not a rare one and probably worth under $20 in that condition. Better photos would give us a better assessment however.

I have an 1886 v nickel with XF detail that was corroded. I used an hydrolysis process with baking soda and water, and it removed a lot of the corrosion. I only tried it as an experiment and was not expecting much. Google it first, but you have nothing to lose. By the way, the 1864 2 cent piece was the first coin to include the motto, "In God we Trust".

Cleaning copper is always an iffy proposition. It will remove all the patina and make it look cleaned. Some people would prefer to have the green verdigris patina instead. To arrest further corrosion, remove any loose surface dirt/ debris, wipe lightly with acetone, and then apply a preservative such as CoinCare or similar.

Congrats on a great find - a real piece of history !

Corrosion on Copper coins from being in the ground really brings the value way down to almost nothing.
Most coin collectors are not interested in them at all. Removal of the coins Patina will result in loss of detail !

Most of us that hunt for old coins with metal detectors really like the dark green Patina (aka Verdigris) that's fairly common on 2 Cent coins, Indian Cents, etc. Myself I would sell any of mine for ten times their book value.
