You know how they say things are bigger in Texas ?
Well got out for a couple more hours today. Had a feeling that I might of missed something. Dug one today that I would take over the other three coins any day. Man I'm stoked about this one. I know they made a lot of counterfeits. But I'm having a hard time looking this one up on the net. It has that silver ring to it.

This is coming from this thread. Posting in here also as maybe to have some info on the 8 reale

Hey, :hello:

The ping test is the worst way to test for silver. :icon_scratch: Any metal makes a ping noise. :o You have to have something to compare the sounds. Like have a coin you know is real or fake and match up the sounds or know the sound of silver very well. :dontknow: I don't know much about reales but I'd say its reale. :icon_thumleft:

Great find !! :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

1880 Mexico 8R Chihuahua mint M.G. assayer. It is the lesser scarce of the four types made there in 1880. It still is a scarce coin though. It looks real to me, how much does it weigh?

Nice, :o !

In Denver, I've managed only a couple of small Mexican silver coins in all the years of detecting. That is a thing of beauty. kudos!

Nice finds my friend. Thanks for sharing....

wow that is a nice find :icon_thumleft: MR TUFF

Nice find! Hope it is a real 8 Reale... like mentioned by another poster -- weigh it. If it is counterfeit, say silver washed copper, the weight will be way off of an authentic one -- 27.073 grams. Granted, due to circulation, the actual weight of the coin could be a little less, but if it is off by more than 1 gram either way definitely not real. If right on, probably real.

Congrats!

Good luck.
HHH.

The dings around the edge aren't rusty or brown. I'd say it's real. I've hunted in the Chihuahua area and only found copper. Everybodys cousin there has a lead on money that was buried by Poncho Villa...kinda funny..but they are dead serious.

Sweet coin.
congrats.
