We found these earlier this week searchin dimes and nickels. Sorry for the pics not being that great. I have never even seen a proof nickel before and getting our first buffalo was really cool ( it's a 1934) and the proof is a 2004. So enjoy the pics. Good luck to everyone hunting today!

Nice proof and buff.I have only found 4 proofs but I love the way they look.

Thanks, I think they are cool looking too, it went into a coin flip along with the buffalo, I have a feeling I won't be finding to many more of these. I'm also one of those guys who save all 59 and back nickels, I don't know why. It's just cool to have really old coins period, to me at least. Thanks for looking and good luck hunting! Maverick.

American nickels were never .999 nickel. They are 75% nickel, 25% copper other than the war nickel. The pre-1983 Canadian nickel is .999 nickel.
