After Cru'Dad got back from dropping off my 2 recent Treasure finds with the FLO & giving a couple of hundred Roman Coins to the British Museum Contact.(Who will record them as the 2nd identifier, Cru'Dad being the 1st) We decided to go out in the rain, it didn't stop until we were soaked through & ready to go home!
I started in a wood area near our Mansio Site, it had recently been thinned out. I only got 1 mid-century cream jar, & pretty deep as well! Whilst I did that, Cru'Dad did a small test pit in area far from where we plan an 'official' marked out one. At 1.5ft we came straight onto a natural yellow clay with chalky bits, but no pot finds other than 1 bit of roof tile in the surface layers - a bust!
We then moved to some failed oil-seed rape in the field on the other side of the road. Not much over there other than a couple of coins etc...
On the way back to the car we tried the Mansio Site again & Cru'Dad got 1 scrappy.
2 hours of getting wet;
1 Scrappy
17th C Button
Rein Guide bit
Lead Bag Seal
1806 Penny
1921 Sixpence - a least I keep my silver streak alive!
