Hey everyone,

I said I wasn't gonna go out in the heat but I did anyways yesterday evening.

It was 90 plus out but the woods is very shaded. I bring a drink and it isn't to bad.

About 10 minutes into the hunt I found the buffalo on the surface. It was in terrible shape.

The buffalo was a 26. But as soon as I tried to clean it it rinced right off.

Always check the surface. I continued and about 10 minutes later I found a decent 1891 Indian right on the surface again.

Hunted a good section of woods. Still lots of targets. I tend to get a little lazy in the heat. Especially if I already found a few keepers.

It's gonna get a little cooler this week. Hope to get out this week with my Dad and brother.

Thanks for looking,

HH Jer

Got pretty much nothing BUT "Woods" here in Mississippi.

Would LOVE to detect several places in them, but we also have 3 other things to contend with this time of year ... 100 Degree Temps, Brutal Humidity .... and SNAKES. Big Ole' nasty, will chase your butt for a mile SNAKES.

:o

I am not fond of snakes ;)

man youre a trooper jer, putting up with this god awfull heat! glad to see you got a couple keepers for your suffering!

I tend to hang out in the boiler room's at work more than I'd like too,man would I trade a day of detecting instead..It's usually around 110 in there..nice find's and HH!!

whats with these,s buff,s. you dig them and the date is there and you put water on them and poof, the date is gone :-\ i found a 1919 and it still has the date on it but not as good when i put water on it.

What could be better than picking up an old coin off the surface........nothing that I can think of.....great finds. I like them indians and still haven't found a buffalo....HH gregd573

Cool Jer!....I neeeeed a vacation. Got to go detecting.......wheeeee!

Nice to get out and come back with a couple old coins. IH is in decent shape. Nate and I got out yesterday for an hour. We each only found one coin. :D But I did manage to find a silver ring that could have some age. So I was satisfied.

Thanks guys,

I wanted to go out and hunt today. But they are tearing the whole street up for a gas leak right in front of my house.

I had to park in my neighbors yard.

It still hot out to.

All you guys that haven't found your first yet just keep hunting. They will come.

Get to some old yards if you can. Or go to your oldest biggest parks and hit the woods and trails.

I find alot of old coins on the surface. Alot of the time they are in really bad shape though.

The exposer all those years really eats them up. Wash offs are great places to find them like that.

The nickles are by far the worst around here. It's a shame. Some times I find them and they are really nice to.

You almost have to leave them dark black and just soak them in olive oil for a long while. Or just tumble them. I have seen good results on tumbled coins that were already bad.

I don't have a tumbler though. Gotta get one at some point.

HH Jer

Those indian Head nickels never look good....I have found very few that came out in nice condition! Late.................... 8)
