Yesterday I went to a little ole town common here in Western Mass. Lots of clad and nails. Then I hit it...my first IHP! 1896, nice and green in the ground at around 7"! Today I went to a house built around 1850. This was my best hunt ever! (Which isnt saying much because I am a newbie!)
My first ever silver coin! Only about 3" deep. I flip the plug, pinpointer says its in the plug. Scrape some off and out pops this...ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461374310.498870.webp
I was almost stunned and didn't react the way I thought I would when I found my first silver! But I am so excited now. Here are some more photos...its unreal how clean it is at only 3" deep for 100 years!

Then i get a great hit about 30 minutes later. Flip the plug and this is sitting there...

What is it???? A New York City Police two piece button. Why???? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461374459.753599.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461374469.847717.webp
So crazy! I cant find any info on the piece itself as to a year so I am hoping people can help me out! Again remember this is in western Mass! The homeowner didnt understand either! But such a great find. At this point I am totally on cloud 9. I am texting my buddy Chad who is telling me to stop texting and dig! Haha good advice!
The only other thing I found besides wheaties is this which I cant identify....

It is shaped like a large coin but pretty heavy. It rang up like copper but is crusted like lead or iron. Any ideas?? Of course when I saw it in the ground I thought it was a large cent. Oh well!
I will certainly be going back to this home! It was a great night of firsts!
Thanks for looking!

You're off to a great start, congrats!

So sick Brother!! I knew you were close to bagging that first silver, but a Barber?!?! That's insane!! So happy for you man, wish I could have saw your face. Those Barbers aren't easy to find anymore, especially the pretty ones!! Cheers

Your off to a great start

Once you get a taste it becomes an addiction.

Good luck in the future

Congrats on a cool couple of firsts. It's great that your first silver is a Barber!

Since you folks up there managed to start a revolutionary war on one of those "ole commons" I bet there is lots more treasure waiting for you under that one. Congratulations...

Outstanding !

2 bucket-listers down and more to come- congrats!!

Great finds. Congrats on your firsts. A Barber and Indian are a great combo

Congratualtions on the coin recoveries! That Barber is a sweet find! :occasion14:
