2 idunno's from today [one is a skull]

Anyone have a guess as to what the metal "flag" type thingy is? I found it in a small patch of woods next to where I think a RR track once was. My first thought was that it had something to do with the RR but I really don't know for sure. The handle or skinny part is taped up. The overall length is 13" and the widest part is 2 1/4".

As long as I'm posting the metal piece, I decided to post the little skull I found as well. Looks like a little rodent of some sort. It's 2 1/4". Probably a squirrel now that I think about it..

A wild guess here. From memory of a movie (don't ask which one) a metal flag up @ station would mean mail pick up. Down, the train could keeping on chugging along.

I was going to lean toward tobacco cutter but I see the OP is from Mɪnɨˈsoʊtə.

I like the RR idea.
