I have found lots of great things off this site that date it to Indian War era. (General service coat button among other things) I have not been able to ID these to finds yet. The flat disk has what looks like the same type of "turning" groves you might find on a Tombac button (you can see it on the picture I hope.) I added the quarter for size comparison.

Thanks for looking.

My first impression of the 'brass ring', is it that it may have come off of a telescope or a pair of binoculars. :icon_scratch:
I can also make out some light decoration on the edges of your 'brass disk', so based on it's size, I'm thinking it's a 'Dandy' button.

Yeah! That rubber sitting out in the elements of the hot sun and freezing cold would deteriorate and crumble away over time. I found a long run of copper wire at a coal mine site that closed in the 1930s. The insulation on it was dry rotted and cracked. When I rolled it all up that once flexible rubber insulation crumbled to pieces and all fell off like it was made of peanut brittle. Sure beat stripping it all off. I think it was old telephone wire. It was 30 bucks worth of copper scrap laying around, until I came along.

My first thought as well... thought the two were married at one time and was scope dust cap or.

The ring thing looks like an older shaft seal. It probably had a rawhide lip rather than rubber one. The rubber type seals have a one piece metal ring, the older seals had to have a piece to hold the leather. It could even been made by Chicago Rawhide, an early seal company.

Yeah, my first thought was 'shaft seal and freeze plug' - early automobile parts.

Remember, a camp site that was good during the Indian Wars was still a good camp site for decades after (and before).

I took a good look at the ring and didn't see any threads on it. They are both made out of the same material I'll swing my machine over it (AT Pro) and give the VDI it that helps.

I think the ring may be a seal too.... looks like the nicks on it are from someone using a tool to remove it.
