Hello All! I got out yesterday to my favorite site with a few friends. We did a day trip (3 hours to get there & 3 back). It was a long but fun day, Im beat!

I found 2 more Rev War howitzer shells yesterday bringing my total to 5 & 9 total from the site! They were basically in the same hole! I now have enough for a pyramid!!! It was very overgrown in the woods but we managed to recover a few things. I also found a tombac button, a flattened musketball & a few Native American artifacts. My buddy Rick found a really nice 1823 large cent.

It's probably my last trip there until after deer season (the land is leased by a hunting club). I'm hoping to bring the Bobcat in for round 2 in January! Thanks for looking & HH!

Sweet find! Interesting that they were in a pile.

Nice cannonballs & relics! Congrats! And you got a two- in-one hole!

My 5th great grandfather enlisted with the artillery regiment at this site in 1780, to think he touched one of these is amazing. He survived Camden & went on to start a big family.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME job!!!! Congrats on those round beauties you lucky dog.
I would love to dig a cannonball.

Wow killer hunt bud! It is certainly tough sledding as thick as it is out there

Very cool finds, what was your tick count?

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

I only got a couple... We use a special spray (permethrin mixture) for our clothes & regular OFF for our skin. It keeps the ticks away really good. I got bit where I didn't spray good.

Thats an awesome site you ve got Josh, with the family history you traced makes it all worth while.

Nice, I hope to find one some day.

Wow Josh - you're amassing quite a collection of those cannonballs. If you've found that many there has to be more, maybe a lot more. The bobcat sounds like a great idea. You definitely have something to look forward to.

wow, real nice. I know the difficulty in finding early shells like that. especially two of them. that has some fair value as well. due to their scarcity, value, and the fact you found two I think this is banner material. Rev War items especially where you are really tough to dig. I am voting banner on this. hopefully others will see their significance.

I appreciate the banner vote! It really is a significant find, especially since I can place them to a certain date & regiment. I have a copy of the regiment's inventory a week before they were at this site & they had 2 howitzers that were the right size for these shells. Out of the 9 shells found 6 were found in pairs! It doesn't seem to be many out there (on the web at least). In doing a search on howitzer shells very little comes up other than the artillery pieces.

no worries. what you managed to find would make my year. That is even better you know what regiment would have used them and the date. Military items from the Rev War are really hard to find, especially where you are. Though I dislike discussing value in general, it comes with the territory and for insurance purposes. Each of those will have a decent value and add up to a small fortune when adding the previous ones. I already nominated banner. hopefully others will catch on and wake up so to speak. Revolutionary War + 2 shells + South = rare, valuable and historical... but even if they don't and are busy nominating scrap gold jewelry worth less than $200; we both know this is banner material and something real special. Huge congratulations and thanks for sharing....

ps, I missed your other post on finding more previously otherwise I would have voted banner for them too.

very awesome finds, pure history!

What a great day at a great site, so much history and emotion must've been involved with that dig! Congrats!

A pyramid, I freaking love it!
Now that's the way to start a collection!
Kudos!
