I went back to one of my old spots today to dig a signal I could not get out of the ground with my digger earlier this spring. The target turned out to be an old padlock and it had writing on it I was quite pleased. This place has definitely been hunted by others and signals are scarce. There was thick rose bushes all around and I remembered an old post on here that I remembered that said you have to be willing to go where others won't or can't to get the good stuff in the hunted sites. So I stoop down and thrust my detector underneath the nastiest rosebush you've ever seen half hoping I would not get a signal but sure enough I got a screaming signal and had to crawl in there. I'm glad I did because I came up with aside from a hundred Hot Rocks the nicest lock I've ever dug. Plus it's a railroad lock Central Pennsylvania I assume. I am not very versed in Old locks so if anyone wants to chime in with a potential age on these it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Thanks to all for the kind words and information. I have always wanted to dig a railroad lock but I never thought I would get the chance. I was pretty happy with the first lock then I dug the second one and I just packed my stuff and went home because I could not wait to clean it off to see if it was really a railroad lock. I checked another one off the bucket list today.

Old padlocks are very nice relic finds, especially the Railroad Locks.

Now that is sweet :: I know the feeling of putting your coil under something and half hoping theres no signal that funny.Great job...

Killer finds, I am still waiting to pull an old lock out of the ground. Congrats.

Fantastic railroad lock Dig a few PRR buttons and a baggage tag and you'll have a nice display

I noticed there was a railroad cut through the ghost town I was hunting but absolutely none of my maps from any era actually show a railroad track here. So I guess I managed to date the railroad spur. My research has uncovered that most of these locks were made in 1913.
