I hit the park today where I found my 2 silvers bullets, clad and a weird looking little pin/button yesterday. the whole time I was in 2 tone ferrous but failed at silver today! I spent 5 hours at the park this morning and decided to hit some orange groves that I have spent over 30/40 hours in and never found a silver coin! I've found indians but never silver. within 30 seconds and 2 swings I got a hit at just a notch above foil. I usally dont dig them in the groves because its infested with foil EVERYWHERE!!! (still in ferrous mode) I dug it just on a hunch and could not believe my eyes! it appers to be an old gold cuff link. no stamp, so I drove to the pawn shop and had it tested (I had to or I would not be able to sleep tonight wondering if it was brass) he said its 14k and tested it with acid I believe. The signal was so tricky because the machine was going crazy because there was so much iron around the gold. You could only move the coil an inch in each direction or the machine would false out but you could hear a solid tone in between the iron!! Then I told my side kick to hold my detector while I clean the cuff link and she threw on the head phones and went at it! I told her just listen for the solid higher tone and walked off to clean the gold. I returned and she said I have a solid tone! I looked at the depth meter and it was below half on depth meter and had a zinc penny vdi hit on the screen. so I dug it for her and out popped out this piece of metal. there is an 1885 date on it! I could not believe it! never detected in her life and found a relic from the 1800s! life is crazy! detector used minelab e-trac

Gorgeous cufflink! This is my very first post, so bear with me guys. I need to chime in on the blue enamel pin. It is the older style Girl Scout WAGGGS pin - World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. Here's a link that explains the pin design: http://tinyzippers.com/scoutsgirlhelp/worldpinceremony.html
and here's one I googled for the Knights Templar

Hope that helps!!

Wow!-maybe we shouldn't tell Mark Parker he was wrong. To tell you the truth, it makes more sense that it is a Girl Scout's pin and not the other-Thanks for the correction Tigger and sorry for the wrong info Pistol-still a great set of finds.

I found one about a year ago and just thought it had something to do with Girl Scouts. The Knights Templar thing had me excited and I went to my stash and pulled the thing out. Someone should tell Mark Parker so he can issue a correction. Any one that expertises things would want his errors corrected.

Actually There was a mistake, all right, but Mark didn't make it. Evidently, there was a mixup in photos supplied for the online edition of "Ask Mark Parker" referred to in this post. The "Knight Time" item originally appeared in the January 2002 issue of W&ET. The photo used by mistake in the online edition appeared in the February 2002 issue. Anybody who keeps back issues can easily confirm this. Here are clips from both columns.
