I would hang on to them.

Yes, I would hang on to them too.

Recently i got a roll of 2003 halves from the bank and beieng new to crh i opened them,I've been reading here after 2001 the halves werent put into circulation? Are these keepers?

Were they in the mint wrapper? If so I would go back to the same teller and ask to buy all her rolls of coins. My guess is someone turned in a collection. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple proof sets busted up in her tray.

Good advice.

Ihe manager at this bank says they never get halves,I just happened to ask that day and a teller had them.I ask every time I go in.The other day I got to talking with her and she told me that she hates coins but she has the tellers give her all the silver coins which she takes home!!She says she has tons at home.I was thinking to ask her to sell me some. What would be a good offer,x times face for coins?I feel she may let some go to me for the right price but I dont want to overpay.Nothing beats face value but a few times face is a small price to pay!

I would try a different approach. Let her know that you are putting together a quarter collection and would like to know if she would sell you her silver quarters so you can search for dates that you need. A fair offer would be between 7.5-9 x face depending on the current silver price. That is why I don't like to offer first. The best thing to do is have her set the price. If her price is a little low go ahead and pay it and bring her lunch or a gift card for the difference as a thank you for helping you get a start on the collection. She will be more likely to sell you all the silver later.

Also were the 2003 in a mint wrapper?

I put together a nickel set with coind from there. She kinda knows what im up to,but i guess saying "If you ever want to sell some of the coins....."she may be open to it.I'd hate to say I'm collecting for a set of quarters and she calls my bluff.Because I'll take the dimes too!!And yes it was in a mint Wrapper,I was so stupid besides it was the first roll of halves i ever landed. So I guess I should regret opening them,I'm still sick over it.

Don't worry about the mint wrapper, at least you still have the coins. The reason I stated to start with the quarters is that the date range is large (32-64) and since they all look alike she would be less likely to withhold them from you. Since she knows that you did the nickels the quarters would be a good ice breaker. The problem with dimes is that most people like the Mercs and she might hold on to them. The halves bring the same problem with the Franklin and Walking Liberties along with the 40% problem. The 40% coins gives her another issue to question why do you pay less for the 40% than the 90% etc..

You could always start off with the Morgan and Peace Dollars. Tell her you'll pay $13 each and see what she says. I think it would be a fair offer.

Good advice GT,I think i missed the prime opportunity the first time,But what could she say no?I think its a good idea she actually said that a teller had a seated liberty?quarter and the girl was like "I've never seen a quarter like this"she told me she went up to her and said thank you and took it!! She was smirking when she was saying this to me so I'm sure shes up to snuff on the coinage!!Sometimes I think I should take a job in a bank for the perks!!
