Found this today. Any idea what would make it look like it does? Is this an example of toning?

Any thoughts are welcome.

This is toning, but probably not the kind that brings any collectors. If it were my guess, this dime has been exposed to a source of heat. I wouldn' t worry to much about toning unless you have a older silver or copper coin. Toning is based on preference some find appealing while others don't. To each their own I guess you could say! Good question! HH, SE

Ok, because it looks beautiful to me. The streaks are very much like gold. I think I'll keep it. I thought maybe it was chemicals that caused it because of how random the effect is.

just heat up the coin on your stove
