2010 GMT & Nuggets

Hi,
I see this site has been heavily used (lol) so I thought I'd add my few nuggets worth.

I forced myself to get out and use the machine, stupid I know but that's what I had to do, and I finally learned some of its uses. I cut up an old junk gold ring and glued a small piece to a white poker chip, I use this as my field checking target. Using the test chip I found I could tune out the background and still have the machine find the target. Once I had this going for me I used the detector to check buckets of dirt I was digging from a spot behind a large boulder, could not swing the detector there. No zip zip and I performed no further work on the pile of dirt. Zip Zip and I panned or sluiced the sample and pulled gold from each sample the GMT indicated had gold. I also sluiced two of the piles that did not give a zip zip readout on the GMT, no gold in either bucket.

It is now 30March2011: I've purchased two new items, one of Doc's "swingy thingy's" and the 8 x 14 DD Whites coil for the GMT. I've not received the coil yet but I will post a comment on it that will compare it to the two other DD coils I have for it.

Good hunting...........63bkpkr

PS the attached picture is the gold from 2010 on top of a half dollar (not a dime as some happy fellas have teased me about)

Re: 2010 GMT & Nuggets

Hi what are docs swingy things ? am chasing a small coil for my gmt and any info/advice would be most welcome . cheers Bob

Hi Bob,
Sorry I just noticed you'd posted on the very neglected nugget section. By now you've likely found both items you'd asked about but--

Doc is out of Nevada and he sells "Doc's Swingy Thingy" just put these three words in the www search area and it will come up. It's a well made contraption for taking a good portion of the weight of the metal detector off of a persons arm and when using the 14" DD coil for th GMT it is worth the purchase price.

The little 4 x 6 DD coil is a really good coil to have as it gets into many tighter spots the standard coil can not. The little coil does a good job of finding gold and it is almost my go to coil for working the banks of a river.

Enjoy..............63bkpkr
