Metal Detecting
I went out Saturday for a quick hunt. The ground had about 2 1/2 inches of frost, but after getting through that it was pretty soft. I was able to find one silver Rosie and 5 wheats. Woke up today and there was 4 inches of fresh snow and the weather forecast for the coming week doesn't have any days getting above freezing, so I think that's it for this year. I guess my biggest highlight was the 9100 mile road trip I did to visit some friends, go to the last 9 of the 50 states I'd never been to and do some metal detecting. Most of that was in the Northeast US. It was a great trip and I found some coins that I'd probably never have found here in Idaho. All total for the year I had 102 silver coins, 3 LCs, a two cent piece, a shield nickel, 9 "V" nickels, 20 Buffalo nickels, 21 Indian Heads, and 341 Wheats. I didn't find anything super rare, but I had a few semi-key coins. Those were: 1917S (Type 1) and 1919S Standing Liberty Quarters, a 1913S Barber dime, 1913D (Type 2) and 1924S Buffalo nickels, an 1872 IH, and 1914D and two 1931S Wheats. This was my second consecutive year with over 100 silver coins. Last year I had 101 and 102 this year. Next year I'm attending a 3 months photography school in Montana, so I don't think I'll have much time for detecting. Here's a few photos:

Nice finds and a nice post thanks for sharing.

That was some year.

Awesome coin finds, ya did very well this season congrats...

Great job MJ! You have some great hunting places.

You had a very good year looking at the totals, and your photos are really good, easy on the eyes.

Now really 3 months photography school and in that time you'll need to practice your skills, and what better subject matter than showing off a find still in the dirt. Good luck on the upcoming coarse, and congrats on completing the 50 it's something that was on the bucket list of things to do.

Wow you done good ! I have to ask about your method of cleaning your copper coins though. They have an almost sand blasted appearance.

You mean those LCs? I just soaked them in some mineral oil and then lightly went over them with a nylon brush. They all had the same pitting so I assumed it was the soil conditions. Two were found in PA and one in NY.

Great year end tally!, 203 silver coins in 2 yrs is phenomenal

Great year! Hh!!

Mighty nice group of finds. I wish the Indians and nickels cleaned up as well in the east. Soil is a bid more acid and eats them up. Great you found a couple of key dates too. 14D and 31S's are nice finds.

Maybe you'll find a Mason Jar full of SILVER,sure would save a lot of time!:laughing7:

GOD Bless

Chris

Great coins my friend! You've done very well
