Hi all ! I ended up getting off work early today so I headed to one of my favorite spots which even after 2 years of hitting it hard I feel as though I have only scratched the surface as I found out today that the fire pits of a union site are down starting at 8 inches in really hard packed soil really puts the machine to the test !

Every single hole sounded off as a deep barely noticeable iron sound ,after flipping the plug a high pitch and in some cases no sound after flipping the plug ,but it would pinpoint and once close the handheld found it , I was literally digging holes inches apart all in a a 5 foot by 5 foot area, finding all these dropped bullets led me to the conclusion these fella's hauled tail in a hurry ! All .57 cals three ringers and .69 cal round balls 26 in total and one coin . Thanks for looking I am hoping to hit it tomorrow after work ..! :) I am cleaning the coin I kind of think its a 1860's indian head

Good job! Great finds!

Great pile of bullets! I'm hoping your coin comes clean and makes a nice key date surprise!

Wow! That was a great area to hunt! The ground almost looks like you were chipping your way down to the bullets (kind of like our soil is in SC right now since it quit raining over two weeks ago).

I hope you find a lot more in this spot.

Awesome finds.

Looks like a great day of digging! Don't forget to clean out those fire pits, alot of relics can be found in them. I once pulled 72 Civil war buttons out of one fire pit and immediate area around it. Talk about fun!

Very cool finds.

I did have to do alot of chiseling to get at them , its one of those places you just wished the owner would turn the field but I dont beleive he ever will as it is a pasture . Im not having much luck with the coin I think its to far gone to get anything off of it .. still trying though ... I am hoping sometime in the near future I will be able to upgrade to either a gpx 5000 or the okm blackhawk , anyone read any personal reviews on the blackhawk ?

Awesome find makes for a great day HOPE YOU GET BACK OUT THERE SOON KEEP DIGGIN AND KEEP POSTING

Gpx 5000 is more for Gold.....Not recommended for relic or coin hunting because of its nature to hit on every little piece of iron....I've seen the Blackhawk and its capabilities to penetrate deep and accurately for very small coins is a coin\relic hunters dream....Both machines are amazing....Good choice of machines: -)

Awesome Finds!...Damn, i would love to have a day like that

Ughh I know. It's like concrete here in Spartanburg. Never had to quit a hunt because the dirt was to hard before! Couldn't get through an inch. Good luck happy hunting to all!

Good site -- likely to dig more variety as you expand it. Reminds me of digging at Camp Dennison in 95-degree heat in clay. I got a good, deep signal and used dad's old WW2 Pack pick to hew out the ground to 22-24". The hole included a Cinn. variety canteen without spout; a few square nails; and broken wine bottle pieces. That one hole took 45 minutes--like digging through rock in that heat.
