2am bling!

I hit the local beach at 2am with my shiny new Sovereign GT and 15 inch WOT coil. It was bleaksville, 2.5 hours and only 3 clad coins (2 quarters 1 cent) but I had some luck and got this silver ring right at the waters edge!

LCD flashlight, I hang mine around my neck like binoculars, Walmart $9.95. Big beach scoop to bash the undesirables who may try to do you harm. Last nights creep event...I'm standing on the wet sand taking a smoke break. Its 3am mind you. Two loser types wander over, one guy comes up to me and says "I don't want to bother you but what are you doing?". I say I'm metal detecting. He says oh. Say do you have a smoke I can bum off you? I say no I'm afraid I don't. He gets irritated with me, says well I can see you are smoking a ciggarette! I say look I don't have many left okay and he stomps off. I'm thinking you know, PO creep get a job and buy your own. I said no, just say okay thanks anyway and go away, don't get ticked off because the answer was no. Never mind what whacko walks around bumming smokes at 3am anyway? Its times like that I wish I was packing heat!

Just like fishin....it only takes one keeper to make your day!
I love hunting the water at night, but I too have had my share of wierd, if not disturbing encounters with "the night people".
I wear an Eddie Bauer headlamp and just let it dangle around my neck.Sometimes,if I dont want to be noticed, Ill hunt in complete darkness.The finds are a suprise to me when I get home.Only works in clean sand ...otherwise I cant find the item in my scoop.

Baldingboy and I both bought a headlight from Lowes for $14.00. It is lightweight, has two leds and runs a lonnnnnnggggg time on batteries, the good part about that is that it points anywhere you are looking. It's great!

I love night hunting! It's strange. I seem to be able to recover targets faster in the dark. Not sure why.

I love night hunting too. I think I do as much night hunting as I do daytime hunting. I see the "undesireables" once in a while, but then again, you can see them during the day too. I usually nod when one walks by if I'm close enough that ignoring them would come across as an insult. If they talk, I reply in good nature. I haven't had a problem yet. 'Course I am 33 and look like I can take care of myself well enough. An older person, or a female should get a concealed carry permit if available, and have some protection just in case. Or better yet, go during the day. Those undesireables aren't out there looking to bother folks like us. Treat 'em like a human, and they'll usually reciprocate.

Cool hunting,I really love hunting at night as well,especially at the beach, I think most of the night types wont even bother you because they figure you look crazier than they do swinging a detector at 3 in the morning :}

Have you ever thought about getting a stun gun?

You could hang it around your neck as well. If the strange night folks were to get out of hand while bumming a smoke, you could easily administer some therapeutic electric shock.

Who knows, might just cure them of that nasty smoking habit.
