I hit the same field agian today and found a much larger piece of some type of rock looking thing--here is a few more descriptions and pictures

1. Smooth on one side and very rough on the other
2. smooth side has a grey and white color but when scratched is silver
3. A few clear and black glass or quartz type bits on it--(very small and uniform)
4. I managed to break a small piece off and as you can see by pic it was not very thick but took well over 2 dozen strikes to get a piece broke off
5. The inside of the thing is grey when first broke but after a short while the grey started to get a powdery white look to it, also on the rough side i pulled what i thought was a wire out of it but it seems that this may have been a part of it as some of the broken off pieces had the same type of thing on them--and the broke pieces were definatly a part of the mineral or whatever
6. While i was beatin it with the hammer it held its shape as it bent
7. And this was 8-9 inches down

If anyone has any clue please help-----cause if this stuff is worth anything i am sittin pretty good -- if not then i have some fill for the pothole up the road.

But i do know for sure i am hitting a new spot tomorrow as i have off all day and am tired of diggin up these things

Well better not quit your day job. Item in picture does not look like a natural mineral specimen and the bendable feature suggests a refined metal. Specimen has shiny metallic luster which is malleable(bends) and is heavy and non magnetic. Looks like lead. Anyone who has dug really old lead such as Civil War Minnie balls will recognize the white lead oxide coating the lead. My guess is really old lead something? which has been in the ground a very long time.

Hi! Are you near any train tracks...It could be lead!! I found lots of lead by tracks already..becarefull too, because lead can be toxic!
Meteorite does not do that it is probalbly what is called a co -glomerand ? I not sure how to spell that !which is a mixter of different minerals. Read the information at the meteorite section on this board, it will tell you some stuff on meteorites...It does look interesting though.

as a matter of fact there is railroad tracks about 150 yards away--in the same baseball fields i have found lots of old trash like hinges and metal plates, nails, etc....lead seems to be the best answer as i understand meteorites are light and these are heavy like lead would be. I just wasnt sure what it might be due to the wierd texture ON THE INSIDE when broke and why one side would be smooth and the other very rough. THANKS FOR THE INFO--LOOKS LIKE IT'LL BE POTHOLE FILL - DONT WANT A CHUNK OF LEAD LIKE THAT LAYIN AROUND

resq937, if there is wire protuding out from the rock, it could be gold. Where are you located. Is there an old glacier flow in the area? would like to see a pix of the wire before you bend it. let me know if you post more pixs.
