Last MD'er I owed was 15 years ago when I lived in the city. It was out away in the closet after having got married and had kids, etc. Moved out to the country this past year in an area full of history. Being the history buff I am I spent time this Winter doing some research of my area and my passion for metal detecting was sparked again. Little did I know at the time when we built our house, I have been able to locate right down the road, walking distance, a old town now long gone. Town was platted in mid 1830's and was thriving during the 1850's with arrival of Wabash Erie canal. Permission has been granted that covers 3/4 of the ground this town was built on. Even in the woods across the road from me the old canal is still there. Anyways, I'm starting off working the perimeter of the old town, which now just a corn field. Figured I'd learn the ATPro best I can before moving into the actual home lots I've identified using an overlay image of the original plat map on top of Google Earth imagery. Got my first good find yesterday. Interesting that this token pre-dated the town by at least 15 years. Hope to find a lot more as I move into the more trafficked areas. The old town even had a plaza it town square. The canal bed itself may prove to be a good area too but noticed it was used as a dumping ground over the years. Saw a 1940's ford truck, broken bottles strewn everywhere, lots of metal scrap, you name it.
