Are the older ones still worth keeping even if they aren't war nickels? I know on one site it mentions they are collectable in uncirculated state. I pulled a 1940,1946 and 1957 out of 10 rolls I did today. I'll probably keep them regardless because of the date. And are 1964s even worth keeping? I tend to find alot. But I'm not in it to complete any sets or anything.

i keep most older than 59. i did keep the 64,67,65 just because of how new they looked. i throw all the rest back. I look for key dates too. Once i get a roll or 2 of each year from 59 to 50 then i will only keep key dates then 49 and older then so one and so one. its just a preference

some nice finds. Good luck on your other boxes too.

Most Jefferson nickels are worth face value

exceptions:
1) War nickels
2) Coins in MS 60 Condition or better
3) Low mintage (<10,000,000)
4) Error coins

The only 1950 nickels that I keep in good condition are:
1950, 1950D, 1951D, 1951S, 1955

1940s: war nickels, 1942 D, 1949 S

all 1938 (PDS) and 1939 (PDS)

Having said that, I have been selling mix rolls of 1940s nickels for more than double face value on ebay. There is always someone ready to buy anything!!
