Hi everyone.
Today I had about 3 hours to hunt before work so, I took off to the little town where I found my 1821 farthing last week. I headed right to the house next door. All the time last week during my hunt I kept looking at this house that was sending messages to come hunt me......come hunt me.......come hunt me.
So, today I pulled into the driveway next door and had my intro speech all ready as I walked up to the door. I did a little knock and waited for the old man to come to the door. As soon as he got close enough I saw he too was a customer of many years in my pet shop ( so much for my intro speech lol ).
He opens the door and says Hi Dan. ( this makes it a lot easier to ask ). I tell him that last week I was next door searching with my metal detector and I had to come over here and see if I would be able to search his law too. He smiles and says of course have fun.
I headed right to the truck to get started before the rain might run me off. I fire up the my Etrac and did a quick noise cancel and, started to hunt. It sounded like a pinball machine with all of the tones going off. I pick a nice high tone and see that the target is a penny and only like 2 inches. Thinking ok lets see whats we have I cut a shallow plug and flip over the sod to see a nice little wheat penny ( maybe 2" ).
I start to work the well worn path to the front porch and, had lot's of targets going off. Next, I have to readjust my settings for everything is going off super shallow. So, I lower the sensitivity to auto and, also removed the +3 and, then turned deep off and, fast off. Now, the Etrac is purring like a kitten with all of these shallow targets.
Trying t work a nice tight pattern towards the front porch I keep hitting wheaties at less then 2". Then I get a nice 11/11 and, know this has to be a nickle. This too shows only 2" and, I pinpoint it to make sure I do not scratch it. Kneeling down I cut a nice shallow plug and, again lay it over this time to see a nice little buffalo that was scared and wanted to come home with me ( after all I own a pet shop ).
Next few minutes I dig clad one hole then a wheatie then a clad then a wheatie.
This is so cool I have no idea if I'm going to get a new coin or an old coin on the next flip of the plug. Then I got a nice high tone ( the silver tone ) and cut a plug looking for a dime maybe. But, out comes a really nice little religious medal from Chicago.
This is turning out to be a great hunt. I always try to find a penny-nickle-dime-
quarter-jewelry and silver in every hunt. ( Not that I get them all every time lol ) So far, I have the penny the nickle the dime and now I get the silver and the jewelry out of the way in one fell swoop.
I have been searching for about an hour now and, am getting all sorts of fun little things. I have got 3 junk rings plus all the coins so far ( not to mention the silver religious medal ). I am close to the old dog house and, get a nice soft high tone. The numbers are bouncing around but, the tone tells me to DIG. I pinpoint to the spot I am going to dig and cut a nice square plug and lay the sod back. This time there is no coin sitting there so I pop out my Garrett pinpointer to check the hole. It sounds off in the hole in the 2 o'clock position so, I careful open the side up a little and out pops a very very tiny silver little disk.
Slowly I look at the coin and think to myself that it's the right size to be a 3 cent piece but, no way would I be lucky enough to get something like that. I popped it into my zipper pouch inside my hunting pouch and continue to search for more goodies.
Back to digging both clad and wheaties when I get a really high tone that reads 11/46. Still the target only shows to be 3" at the most. I am super careful again while pinpointing to make sure i do not scratch anything. Kneeling down I cut a square plug and lay it open looking for silver maybe. Then I see a great big old copper.
I got a large cent with no date ( but, hey I'm super happy date or not ). Now, I am thinking omg how cool is this. I have found some great finds so far and, I have only scratched a tiny section of this huge lawn.
Then mother nature tells me ok you're done lol and the rain starts to fall making sure I am not late for work. lol I pack everything into the truck and make sure I tell my buddy thank you and, make sure he does not mind me coming back to finish.
When I get to the shop I pour all my goodies out onto a bench and start to look at everything. The 1st thing I wanna see is the tiny silver disk. After, a little soap and water I see that IT IS A 3 CENT SILVER
1852. I try to find a date on the large cent but no luck so, I move onto the buffalo to see what I can do. Come to find out it is a 1921.
Now, none of these wonderful coins are in great shape ( kind of like me a tad ugly ) But, to me they are beautiful!!!!
I can not wait until Thursday to go back and see what other goodies lie waiting for me to rescue them.
I plan on taking some nice cookies to my buddy to enjoy while I enjoy searching his lawn.
Thank you all for looking I hope you can see the coins they are not in great shape so I scanned them and tried to make the pic's the best I could.
