We are having an Indian Summer here; 30 today :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :o In Oct :icon_scratch: Hotter than most of Spain at this type of year :laughing7:

Spent the first 1 hour 15 mins on a Roman Site we have hit pretty hard in the past.

Still managed 3 Roman Coins
Hunts Button with Gun Dog (collecting a shot bird)
My first Roman Ear Scoop or Medical implement (not to sure which as the scoop end is slightly broken)
Nice Roman Bronze Mount (Trumpet designs)

Roman Site 2...

Spent the next 2 hours on another Roman Site that we have done pretty good. It goes to show as most of the Roman Coins were tiny. We call this filtering a field, for the most part we take off all the big stuff at the start & work our way smaller over the years.

18 Roman Coins
Tudor Button
Broken Tudor Buckle
Knee Buckle

Roman Silver Ant. - Octacilia Severa (wife of Philip I), Rev: Concordia Seated. AD 245-7 (Dad got it & its our first of this person)

On the last 4 outings we have had 3 Roman Silver on 2 different Sites :)

New Stubble Field...

On the way home we stopped at a Wheat Stubble Field near a Church that we have never done. (45 mins)

Not much to report other than a nice Livery Button. (new type I need)

Nice one Cru :icon_thumleft:. The fields round here have been getting more like concrete by the day, we desperately need some rain. I was going to go out today, but I changed my mind and will now go tomorrow morning. Hopefully the overnight dew will soften the surface a bit :dontknow:.

First & last fields were OK.

2nd had clay lumps & I had to smash several with a flat spade & hope for the best :tongue3:

The fields hard as concrete ... now we are equal . :laughing7:
Good Roman silver.

man those romans are cool and that silver is awesome! I think that's the biggest roman silver I've ever seen posted :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Congrats on the silver! Nice hunt  Breezie

Not much wear on that silver.

The workmanship I think is quite amazing for 1700+ years old. Some of the coppers seem somewhat crude in comparrison to this coin.
What would the dies be made of ? What would they "carve" them (the dies) with ? I mean there were no reducing machines...were there ?

Hope you were getting some help from your Dad on these hunts Cru!
I like the Livery Button, very nice! ;D

To be honest, I have no knowledge of their coin making process to the depth of your question :dontknow: What I do know is that they somewhat lost the skill nearly 1000 years later in the Medieval period, as the Roman rulers actually looked like a portrait compared to the Medieval types.

Yes, you can always assume Dad was with me unless I say I'm on my own  His knee is fine at the moment, fine enough to dig that silver :-[ :P :tongue3: :laughing9:

Nice one mate :icon_thumleft: I doubt I'd last more than an hour in this heat, but I know nothing stops you :laughing7: What with that and the lack of depth in the dry, I've given it a miss this weekend :-\

30 degrees C, I don't hunt! Just too hot, but good finds anyway.

Trust me after the second site, I was done & I was pleased Dad got a Roman silver at the end game. I only tried elsewhere as we had travelled 40 minutes home & it had cooled a little. :icon_thumright:
